Restoring the balance in your life
Welcome to Keziah Serena Acupuncture in Leeds; Chinese Medicine for health, wellbeing and renewal
My name is Keziah Serena and I am a Traditional Acupuncturist combining Traditional Chinese Medicine and 5 Element Acupuncture. After receiving my degree from the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine, I relocated to Leeds to pursue my journey of healing and to bring the wonderful art and science of acupuncture to more people.
I work from a tranquil treatment room located in Leeds. The Clinic is well-served by local transport and free parking is available.
Whether you are looking for support with an existing heath condition, want to reduce your day-to-day stress levels or would just like a little "me" time, my aim is to get you feeling happier, healthier and energised with specially-tailored Acupuncture treatments.
I am a full member of the British Acupuncture Association.
Acupuncture is a natural healing system based on ancient Chinese principles which date back to over 2000 years. By inserting fine needles into acupuncture points an Acupuncturist can help the body to balance its 'Qi', your body's vital energy. In modern times, lifestyle and environmental factors can cause the body's Qi to become scattered, depleted or blocked and this results in symptoms of pain, illness and disease.
Acupuncture aims to treat the individual as a whole, creating a state of equilibrium and promoting physical and mental wellbeing. It has the benefit of also being a deeply relaxing, and during periods of relaxation the body takes the opportunity to heal and restore itself.
Acupuncture can be especially helpful for long-term and recurring conditions. As a complementary therapy it should not be considered an alternative to conventional medicine.
Cupping Therapy is a traditional African, Chinese and Middle Eastern practice which can be used to treat a broad range of conditions.
Cupping involves placing suction cups on certain areas of the body. A flame is used to create a vacuum in each cup and this suction promotes the flow of blood. The cups may be static or oil may be applied to move then around a certain area.
Benefits of cupping include:
Cupping is likely to leave red dots or small bruising on the skin. This is part of the therapeutic effect and will usually fade after 5-10 days.
Guasha involves using a tool to scrape certain areas of the body.
According to current medical research, guasha increases blood flow and produces an anti-inflammatory and immune protective effect that persists for days following a single treatment.
The marks made by the scraping tool used during guasha are similar to a rash or bruise and are part of the therapeutic effect. The marks should subside after 5 days.
Moxibustion is an essential part of Chinese Medicine which takes its name from moxa, a natural substance prepared from Mugwort leaves.
Moxa can be held just above the skin, or placed on top of an acupuncture needle or directly on the skin, usually over a specific acupuncture points or meridians. The herb is then lit and as it slowly smoulders, heat permeates the skin and affects the flow of Qi and Blood in the area being treated.
Most people find the gentle heating sensation of moxa treatment very pleasant.
